HELP! I need crate training advice!?

I have a 7 week old pup. I read books and watched videos on how to crate train and raise a puppy but they are vague. What I did was put a crate inside a pen. I put my sweatshirt and toys in her crate and then in the pen I put her water and food and more toys and wee-wee pads so she can go at night if I don’t get to her in time. YET, she howles and whines all night and for a LONG LONG time when I put her in her crate during the day. HELP! Should I keep her in ther crate at all times? She is good about going outside during the day and has only had a couple of accidents at night. After she goes (during the day) I play with her outside or let her inside to play for a while. Should I not do that? Is it just from the crate-outside to potty-back to crate? PLEASE HELP SOMEONE! I want to be a good mommy.

Sounds like you doing it correct!!! The caret is for when you are away and at night, but sue it sometimes when you are home or when you go outside without her for even a few minutes. Don;t let her think that the crate is always an 8 hour ordeal. Don;t be afraid of the crate- I used one for the first time with our last puppy, and he loved it. After getting used to it. Let him whine. They’re like children, don’t give in and she’ll figure out that you are going to let her out, just needs to wait for you.

Again, do the 5-10 thing during the day a few times so she knows it’s not always a long term thing in the crate.
